MAXIMUM COMFORT MINIMAL IMPACT
...from root to packaging
KIND ON YOU KIND ON THE PLANET
At KALMTHREAD, we use an advanced closed-loop process to craft our bamboo fabric, ensuring maximum sustainability with minimal environmental impact and chemical usage. Unlike conventional methods, our closed-loop system recycles and reuses all water and chemicals within the manufacturing process, drastically minimising waste and lowering emissions. This process also maintains the intrinsic properties of bamboo, such as its softness, breathability, natural antibacterial, moisture-wicking and hypoallergenic qualities—all preserved from plant to product. The result guarantees a premium, high-grade material that stands apart from mass-produced alternatives, making the fabric luxuriously soft and eco-friendly. With 95% Tanboocel bamboo viscose and 5% Elastane for enhanced stretch and comfort, our gloves are as sustainable as they are luxuriously soft and durable, offering the best comfort and care for sensitive skin and the planet. Moreover, our manufacturer adheres to stringent national certifications and sustainable protocols, achieving high quality and sustainability in our bamboo fibre production.
Our Bamboo Fibres Production Journey
FROM FOREST TO FABRIC
We work closely with our manufacturing partner, who specialises in eco-friendly practices and is dedicated to sustainability at every stage of the production process. Their operations prioritise using modern, sustainable methods, and they adhere to globally recognised certifications, ensuring that all materials and processes meet the highest environmental and ethical standards. This includes certifications like GOTS, OEKO-TEX, and FSC, which support their commitment to environmentally conscious manufacturing.
Step 1
Bamboo Cultivation
Our bamboo is sourced from the lush forests of Sichuan Province, China, also known as the giant panda's habitat. Bamboo is a highly renewable resource, requiring minimal water and no pesticides during growth, making it one of the most sustainable plants on Earth.
Step 2
Harvesting Bamboo Stalks
The bamboo is harvested by cutting the stalks cleanly, ensuring new shoots can proliferate. This method supports continuous regeneration and maintains the ecological balance.
Step 3
Processing Bamboo into Pulp
The stalks are chopped into small pieces and processed into a pulp through a closed-loop system. This process uses minimal environmentally friendly solvents to separate the bamboo cellulose while adhering to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). The pulp is then thoroughly washed to remove any residual chemicals.
Step 4
Fiber Production
After cleaning and drying the pulp, it is mechanically spun into soft, durable bamboo fibres. This step creates a high-quality material that retains bamboo's natural sheen and softness.
Step 5
Yarn Spinning
The bamboo fibres are spun into yarn, the foundation for fabric production. This process ensures strength and flexibility, key attributes of our final fabric.
Step 6
Weaving and Dyeing
The yarn is woven into fabric and dyed using eco-friendly dyes free of harmful chemicals. This step ensures the final product is safe for sensitive skin while maintaining vibrant and lasting colours.
Step 7
KT Glove Production
The fabric is tailored into our bamboo gloves, offering superior comfort, warmth, and hypoallergenic properties. Each step of the production process aligns with certifications such as FSC, GOTS, OEKO-TEX, and USDA Organic, ensuring our commitment to sustainability and quality.
CERTIFICATIONS
At KALMTHREAD, we take pride in crafting our organic bamboo gloves to meet the highest sustainability and safety standards, with a deep respect for both the environment and human health.
OEKO-TEX
Standard 100
Our gloves carry the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, which means they have been thoroughly tested for harmful substances. This certification guarantees that our gloves are safe for even the most sensitive skin, free from any chemicals that could cause harm to the individual and the environemnt.
GOTS
Global Organic Textile Standard
The GOTS certification ensures that our gloves are produced from organically grown bamboo fibres and processed environmentally and socially responsibly. This means our bamboo is grown without synthetic pesticides or toxic chemicals, ensuring a safe and eco-friendly product for our customers.
Organic 100
Content Standard
Our gloves are certified to contain 100% organically grown bamboo fibers. The Organic 100 Content Standard certification ensures full traceability of our gloves’ organic content, from bamboo farms to finished product, providing transparency and confidence in the integrity of our supply chain.
USDA Organic
The bamboo used in our gloves is USDA Organic certified, ensuring that it is grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). This certification underscores our steadfast commitment to organic farming practices, ensuring the purity and natural integrity of our raw materials and your peace of mind about the product's safety.
EcoCert
Our gloves are made from bamboo certified by EcoCert, which guarantees that the bamboo is grown and processed according to rigorous environmental and social criteria. This certification ensures that our bamboo is cultivated without harmful chemicals and uses sustainable and ethical practices.
FSC
Forest Stewardship Council
The bamboo in our gloves is sourced from FSC-certified forests, which means it is harvested responsibly, supporting sustainable forest management. This certification reflects our unwavering dedication to preserving natural ecosystems and supporting the communities that depend on them. When you choose our gloves, you're not just buying a product, you're supporting a cause.
Bamboo grass stands out as one of the planet's rapidly proliferating plants, boasting impressive crop yields within a short period. It demands minimal water and can be harvested sustainably without causing harm to the plant, allowing the same canes to regenerate repeatedly. Bamboo forests play a crucial role in purifying our air by absorbing approximately five times more CO2 and emitting 35% more oxygen compared to similar hardwood trees.

Our gloves are crafted from 95% Tanboocel bamboo fibres—a premium viscose bamboo fibre known for its exceptional softness, breathability, and sustainability—and 5% Elastane for optimal flexibility and fit. Tanboocel bamboo fibre production process demonstrates significant efforts to minimise chemical usage and environmental impact through advanced recycling and waste management techniques.
In a closed-loop system, chemicals used in the fibre production are continuously recycled and reused within the manufacturing process. This minimises waste, reduces environmental impact, and enhances sustainability.
ADVANTAGES:
- Environmental Impact: Significantly lower emissions and waste generation due to the recycling of chemicals.
- Resource Efficiency: Maximises the use of raw materials and solvents, reducing the need for fresh inputs.
- Regulatory Compliance: Often aligns better with stringent environmental regulations and certifications.
- Cost-Effectiveness: Long-term cost savings through the reuse of chemicals and reduced waste management expenses.
- Higher Sustainability: By recycling alkali and solvents, the process reduces environmental footprint.
- Enhanced Quality Control: Closed systems minimise contamination and ensure consistent fibre quality.
- Regulatory Alignment: Adheres to stringent national standards (GB/T19001-2000, GB/T24001-1996, GB/T28001-2001) for quality, environment, and occupational health.
